We get many requests for picture hanging from inner west Sydney residents. The range and types of requests include hanging:

  • art work
  • photographs
  • framed prints
  • unframed prints
  • wall mounted sculptures
  • sets of prints
  • artwork series prints

There can be some interesting challenges when clients have, for example, a series of ‘related’ artwork that needs to be mounted on the wall in a certain geometric pattern. This could be a series of art work that is hung in a row, either vertically or horizontally or even diagonally. We often get asked to hang groups of photographs that need to be grouped in a certain way.

The image above shows a set of 5 print art work that have be mounted in line. Clearly, the over all impact of the art dictates that the prints be mounted accurately and precisely. This is not always as simple as installing the picture hooks in a straight line. We often find that the picture wire of picture loops mounted onto the picture frame are not mounted in the same spot. This means that if we were to simply mount the picture hooks in a row, then the art work may well not be in a straight line! To counter these problems we generally measure the distance from the picture wire of picture mounting loop to the top of the print. We then use that distance to correctly position the picture hooks.

We can mount picture hooks on solid walls (typically rendered brick work) or ‘drywall’, meaning gyprock or plasterboard. This requires us to carry a very wide range of anchoring systems and a huge range of picture hooks. Hooks typically come with a ‘load rating’ and we can supply 15 kg rated hooks for most picture hanging jobs.
